As mandated by the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act (MCSIA),
a new school bus endorsement has been created. All individuals
who operate school buses are required to add the new "S"
endorsement to their commercial license by September 30, 2005.
It is scheduled to be available in Kentucky on July 1, 2005.
To obtain
this endorsement, an individual must make application at their
local Circuit Court Clerks office and successfully complete
both written and road testing specifically designed to ensure
the safe transportation of students. Individuals who have
been regularly employed as school bus drivers during the previous
two years may be eligible for an exemption from the road testing
requirements.
